Thea Grant and BAZZ by Thea Grant, the jewelry collections, are a collaboration in design and exploration of artistic form by Thea Grant and Nicolás Bazzani. A Brooklyn local, Grant founded the company and the original one-of-a-kind jewelry brand, Thea Grant, in 2003 after experiencing repeated success with her costume jewelry designs on the runway. In 2005 Grant was joined by her partner and husband, Nicolás Bazzani.
With plans to fuse their rapidly growing multi-media design ideas the two soon established a studio for their collaborative work called BAZZdeGRANT. In the Fall of 2006, Grant and Bazzani launched BAZZ, a delicate and personal collection of jewelry featuring sterling and 14k gold-filled and vermeil compositions of new chain and antique jewelry pieces/objects along with castings of original antique items that form both one-of-a-kind constructions as well as repeatable silhouettes.
United by the strong ideologies of both Grant and Bazzani, and perceived as a vanguard of worn decoration, the Thea Grant and BAZZ jewelry collections integrate often wildly dissonant and unexpected objects that at times challenge the tradition of jewelry wearing. The designs often tread a fine line between costume and fine jewelry, and are distinctive and at times allegorical.
Grant and Bazzani approach each of their styles like a constructivist sculpture. Draped on a mannequin and then built with attention to theme and form, each piece is appended with the vintage and antique objects, fobs, curios and charms that catch their eye as they trove New York and beyond. Their materials range from vintage brass to sterling to gold-fill and result in effects ranging from rock'n'roll to pop to gothic to heirloom.
The Thea Grant and BAZZ collections have found success both on local, national and international levels. The jewelry has been photographed for an ongoing host of magazines and can be found draped around the necks and wrists of the renowned in film, music, and the arts.
